Weekly Semiconductor Industry News Brief
① Luxi Technology: 8-inch SiC Substrates Now in Commercial Sales
On August 19, Luxi Technology stated on its investor interaction platform that it has overcome key core technologies in 6/8/12-inch SiC crystal growth and substrate precision processing. Its 8-inch SiC substrates have entered commercial sales, and 12-inch SiC business is being expanded in parallel. Starting in 2026, the company is focusing on improving yield and shipment scale of 8-inch conductive and semi-insulating substrates, accelerating its position in the critical window when the industry shifts from 6-inch to 8-inch.
② Shandong Tianyue Advanced Reports H1 2026 Results: 8-inch Products Exceed 50% of Revenue
On August 19, Shandong Tianyue Advanced released its H1 2026 semi-annual report, with revenue reaching RMB 914 million, up 15.10% year on year. 8-inch products have replaced 6-inch as the main revenue contributor, accounting for more than 50% of main business revenue, and 12-inch products have entered order delivery. Q2 quarterly revenue hit a record high of RMB 548 million. Affected by exchange losses of RMB 118 million, net profit attributable to shareholders was RMB -58.62 million, turning from profit to loss. The company maintains a leading global market share in 8-inch conductive substrates, with cost-reduction effects from product mix upgrades gradually emerging.
③ STMicroelectronics Raises Prices for Third Time This Year, Effective August 23
STMicroelectronics recently sent a price increase notice to customers, announcing upward adjustments across multiple product lines effective August 23. This is the company's third price hike this year, following earlier rounds on April 26 and June 28. Meanwhile, power semiconductor makers in Taiwan are also preparing a new round of increases. Price hikes for IGBTs and SiC MOSFETs are expanding from individual vendors into a unified industry trend amid persistently tight supply-demand conditions.
④ Xigan Technology's Hefei SiC Module Plant Produces First Samples
On August 20, Xigan Technology's Hefei module plant produced its first samples, bringing its "reverse IDM" development path into a critical verification stage. According to the company, its Jiangyin wafer fab has been operating for nearly two years and chip capacity is ramping up. Power wafer fabs typically require a 12-18 month capacity ramp-up period, during which process parameters must be repeatedly tuned, yield improved and product reliability verified. The module sample milestone means the substrate, epitaxy, device and module chain has been preliminarily integrated.
⑤ TECHCET: Global CMP Polishing Materials Market Expected to Grow 10.3% in 2026
Research by international consultancy TECHCET shows the global semiconductor CMP polishing materials market (including slurries and pads, with slurry accounting for nearly 60%) reached USD 3.8 billion in 2025 and is expected to grow 10.3% to USD 4.2 billion in 2026. Driven by AI demand and rising CMP step counts from advanced nodes, new materials and new processes, TECHCET expects the market to grow at a CAGR of 8.8% from 2025 to 2030.
⑥ Silicon Wafer Market Sees First Full-Line Price Increase in Over Three Years, Up More Than 10%
In August 2026, the semiconductor silicon wafer market saw its first full-series price increase in more than three years, with 6-inch, 8-inch and 12-inch products all rising 10% or more. New 12-inch polished wafer contract quotes have been settled with increases of roughly 10%, while 8-inch wafer price negotiations for 2027 are progressing at 10% or higher. SUMCO expects AI-related demand for advanced-process wafers to exceed 1 million pieces per month in 2026, accounting for more than 10% of total global 12-inch wafer demand.
⑦ Lion Micro: Silicon Wafer Demand Robust, Price Increase Cycle Has Begun
On August 17, Wang Minwen, chairman of Lion Micro, said at the company's H1 2026 performance briefing that with the semiconductor industry's recovery, silicon wafer market demand is strong and the industry has entered a price increase cycle. Driven by the AI computing industry, demand for heavily-doped wafers is being rapidly released. Combined with the continued ramp-up of its 12-inch wafer capacity and upgrading toward higher-end product mixes, overall production and sales scale is steadily expanding.
⑧ Zhengzhou 8-inch Specialty Silicon Polished Wafer Project Kicks Off Bidding with Annual Capacity of 3.6 Million Pieces
As of August 12, the 8-inch specialty silicon polished wafer project in Zhengzhou High-tech Zone launched bidding. Once fully operational, it will form an annual capacity of 3.6 million 8-inch specialty silicon polished wafers, corresponding to an annual output value of about RMB 560 million. Previously, Zhengzhou High-tech Zone reached in-depth strategic cooperation with Maxk Electronics, with a total planned investment of RMB 7 billion, laying out both 8-inch and 12-inch wafer production lines to tackle the localization of high-end specialty silicon wafer processes.
⑨ SICC: 3300V SiC Devices in Customer Validation, Full Voltage Range Portfolio Complete
Zhao Qi, chairman of SICC, recently said that high-voltage SiC devices account for nearly 40% of the total value of solid-state transformers (SST), making it the next high-growth market for SiC. SICC's 3300V SiC devices have been sent for validation with core customers, potentially reducing system-level BOM costs by 20%-35% and filling a key gap in domestic high-voltage SiC applications in SST core power stages. The company has now completed its full SiC voltage range portfolio from 650V to 3300V, with 6.5kV and 10kV products under development.
⑩ Nidec Precision Detection Technology to Exhibit at PCIM Asia 2026
On August 19, Nidec Precision Detection Technology announced it will exhibit at PCIM Asia Shenzhen 2026, held August 26-28 at Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center, presenting detection solutions related to power semiconductors such as IGBT and SiC. The exhibition is Asia's largest international trade fair for power electronics, gathering technologies and products in power conversion, control and supply.
